first astronaut-generation. He has
been trained in Cap Caneveral since
1956 together with Glenn and
Carpenter, working on the
moonlanding project in 1967, joined
the skylab mission in 1973 and later
in 1974 visited the Sovjet
spacelab
Sojus 4. He was chosen especially for
this extremely difficult, important
and costly mission, because of his
long experience and high reliability.
